The 2019/20 Marketing Year is One of the Best in NIBULON’s History

Wheat (41.4 % of the company’s total exports), corn (34.6 %), and barley (13.6%) were the main crops exported by NIBULON in 2019/20 MY. NIBULON’s important competitive advantage, which enables the company to take leadership positions in the market for many years, is a developed network of complexes to receive, store, and transship grain and oilseeds as well as a modern logistics (including river one) allowing it to provide timely shipment of goods even when less developed logistics of other exporters cannot keep to the shipment terms. Concerning wheat export geographic regions, Indonesia is the main destination country, having been one of the largest Ukrainian wheat importers for the last years. Egypt took second place in the company’s total export.   “An increase of supply volumes to the GASC state agency has promoted export growth to Egypt. NIBULON plans to continue its cooperation with Egypt in the 2020/21 marketing year, and it is more likely that this destination country will be entering TOP-2 importers of wheat shipped by NIBULON”, explains Myroslav Karabut, a manager in grain wholesale. The company has considerably increased its shipments to Yemen in comparison with last year. It became possible due to the fruitful cooperation with local processors who prefer Ukrainian wheat over French and Russian one due to its high quality. Philippines, Jordan, and Tunisia are other main destination countries.  “In the 2020/21 marketing year, it will be possible to increase export volumes to Morocco and Tunisia where Ukrainian wheat is in demand, thereby causing a decrease of wheat production in the EU, especially in France, which remains the main supplier to these countries. In addition, Pakistan can become a new potential export direction, as its government has recently allowed the private market to import wheat. The country is expected to buy 2-2.5 million tons of wheat within a year. Vietnam also remains among new potential and perspective export directions”, adds Myroslav Karabut.  China was the main corn importer in the 2019/20 marketing year. Egypt, EU countries, Israel, and South Korea became important directions of corn exports. The company expects fruitful cooperation with buyers from India, Vietnam, and Saudi Arabia in the new season. By the way, NIBULON exported more than 60% of barley to the very Saudi Arabia in the 2019/20 marketing year. NIBULON exported sorghum and rapeseed to EU countries (rapeseed to the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, France, Portugal, and sorghum to Italy and Spain). The EU is expected to remain the main importer of these crops next season. The company’s annual export potential is up to 8 million tons of agricultural commodities. The coronavirus crisis and the unstable grain market prevented the company from implementing its export activities to its full extent. In the 2020/21 marketing year, the company plans to increase export volumes up to 6 million tons by developing infrastructure across Ukraine, improving a logistics system, cooperating with existing contactors, and establishing dialogue with the new ones. NIBULON will continue developing target markets in the EU, South-East Asia, Middle East, and Africa, taking into account its competitive advantages and the peculiarities of various countries as to quality and condition of products imported.    “The company plans to expand cooperation with direct receivers and processors of Ukrainian grain worldwide in the 2020/21 marketing year by arranging a direct supply system from a field to a consumer’s elevator and by improving the export product distribution system in the largest target markets. Meeting the highest international quality requirements, the company plans to develop cooperation with niche processors of high-quality raw products”, mentions Dmytro Furda, a senior trader. Dmytro Furda adds that Ukraine expects to receive a record corn yield in 2020/21 MY. According to the various analytical editions, this year’s gross yield can comprise 37-40 million tons, depending on weather conditions from July to August. NIBULON plans to ship for export about 2.5 million tons of corn, which will be a record result for the company. Moreover, taking into account coronavirus and political crises in the world, it will become a real challenge to reach this aim, as the company seldom works in these complicated and hard-to-predict conditions.According to Oleksandr Voloshyn, a trader for barley and sorghum, Ukraine has been harvesting more than 90 million tons of main grain and oilseeds, as well as exporting more than 50 million tons for the second consecutive year.   Today NIBULON continues expanding its network of river transshipment terminals and building its cargo fleet. NIBULON’s shipping company transported 3.8 million tons of various cargoes by inland waterways during 2019/20 MY. The company has started 2020/21 MY with its new high-tech Zelenodolska branch transshipment terminal built in Marianske village (Dnipropetrovsk region). Due to its efficient logistics system, the company manages to minimize grain volumes received from trucks, thereby reducing traffic load on Ukrainian highways. At present, the company transports 60% of cargoes by water (about 4 million tons per year), 30% by railway, and only 10% by road.
