Sustainable Approaches and New Solutions in NIBULON’s Agricultural Activities

Having successfully finished the 2021 season and set new records in agriculture, the company continues to form the 2022 yield. This year the company has sown winter crops on an area of more than 34.2 thousand ha, which is more than last year (31.3 thousand ha). The largest area is sown with wheat – 27.6 thousand ha, rapeseed – 4.7 thousand ha, and winter barley – 1.9 thousand ha. Despite certain challenges in autumn, such as a two-week delay in sowing crops caused by late harvesting, as well as a delay in emerging crops and passing through growth stages caused by autumn drought in the west of Ukraine, winter crops are now in good condition. High yield results are forecasted if the crops overwinter well in February. NIBULON’s 20 branches cultivate land in 10 regions across Ukraine: not only in the north where weather conditions promote high yields, but also in the southern and eastern regions with drought weather conditions. Consequently, the company focuses on the differentiated sowing of crops. Crop freezing risks caused by cold air masses from the east are higher in the eastern part of the country, thus the company does not sow winter rapeseed there. As a result of the absence of considerable volumes of corn cultivation, the share of grain crops in the structure of winter crops is higher in the southern part of the country. The most important issue for all the agrarians was to provide the agricultural commodity production with plant protection means and fertilizers, the prices for which increased significantly. The experts forecast the lack of wheat yields, as the agrarians apply fewer fertilizers. The grain will probably be harvested on the areas where fertilizers were not applied fully. Despite such serious economic challenges, NIBULON, a renowned producer of high-quality grain, the number of which comprised 95% of the total quantity this season, did not change the sowing crop structure, implementing its own strategy of agricultural commodity production. During the autumn harvesting campaign, the company efficiently purchased all the material and technical facilities and used them optimally to sow winter crops in every region of Ukraine. “The company applied complex fertilizers (Serbia) for winter crops. The sorts selected by the Selection and Genetic Institute in Odesa, the Institute of Irrigated Agriculture of the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences of Ukraine and the Bor private selection and research company traditionally prevail in winter grain crops. The variety of foreign selection crops was also expanded. The company used Aspect, Artyst, and Turanum sorts. As to the winter rapeseed varieties in the risk agriculture areas, we traditionally use seeds of our own production – Gabriella Hungarian selection. The crop varieties is more diverse in the west of Ukraine where the hybrids from Syngenta, Corteva and Bayer are used”, says Kostiantyn Khmelnytskyi, NIBULON’s Deputy General Director of Agriculture. The strategy to purchase fertilizers, plant protection means and plant growth regulators for both winter and spring crops will be based on the proportional and efficient provision of the production branches, depending on weather conditions in every region. Today the company is preparing for spring agricultural works which will be started soon. Every year NIBULON renews its own agricultural machinery fleet. The company has already signed agreements to purchase FENDT 1038 Vario tractors, CLAAS Trion 730 harvesters, AMAZONE Pantera self-propelled sprayers, LEMKEN Rubin 9-600 disk harrows, and other modern machinery produced by the best foreign and domestic producers. The company plans to invest USD 5.6 million to renew its machinery this season. NIBULON’s specialists inspect, maintain, and repair agricultural machinery at the company's engineering and service centers. At present they are preparing light tractors, heavy tractors, trailed planters, tilled and grain planters for the new season. All the machinery is modern, high-capacity, and convenient. The specialists at the production department continue to sign agreements to purchase seeds, mineral fertilizers, and plant protection means. At present the basis for the successful 2022 production season has been formed. All the works are performed according to schedule, thereby enabling the company to conduct planned activities optimally. We wish all the agrarians favourable weather conditions, successful and efficient solutions, as well as high yields!
