From July 6 till 8, 2012 in Yalta city there was held the eleventh international conference “Grain forum: production, processing, trading”. IA “APK-Inform”, the organizer of the event, set itself as an object to inform representatives of all sectors of the grain market about the most urgent issues. Representatives of not only leading Ukrainian companies but also representatives of companies from Russia, Kazakhstan, EU, and the USA, and also delegates from main purchasing countries of the Ukrainian grain commodity took part in the conference. Forum participants were agricultural producers, representatives of agricultural holdings, grain trading companies, transport and forwarding companies, and survey companies, management and experts of elevators and grain processing companies, engineering companies, suppliers of equipment, material and technical resources; representatives of financial and insurance companies, banks, and also industry associations and unions, representatives of legislative and executive branches of authorities of Ukraine, and also nongovernmental organizations. Within the scope of the forum preliminary results of 2011/2012 marketing year were summed up and prospects for the grain market development of 2012/2013 MY were announced. Participants paid particular attention to production issues (record transitory remains of grain crops, effect of weather and climatic conditions for the yield in 2012, record yield of corn in 2011/2012 season, prospects for the market development of niche crops), processing issues (deficit of food wheat for flour mills of Ukraine), and also trading issues (increase of demand for grain, change in prices for grain and provision, possible limitations of wheat export in 2012/2013 season). Besides, general issues of the sector were discussed. Generally, at the conference “Grain forum – 2012” 190 persons from 125 companies from 13 countries of the world took part. Yuliya Emelyanova, Lina Ogneva, representatives of “NIBULON’s” traiding department, were participants of the conference. Kateryna Koval’s’ka, the head of the department, was a speaker of the session “Prospects for the global grain market development in 2012/13 MY”. The first day of the conference was devoted to the development of the Ukrainian exchange market according to brokers’ experience of CME Group and INTL/FCStone. During the second day there was made an emphasis on the topic “Infrastructure development of the grain market of Ukraine” which was ended with visiting session at SK “Avlita” company. During the last day of the conference prospects for the global grain market development in 2012/2013 MY were discussed. In the context of prospects for main crops development Kateryna Koval’s’ka, the speaker of “NIBULON”, developed the topic “Sorghum as a promising niche crop”. This topic was already reported in February 2012, in Kyiv, during the conference “Agricultural resources-2012: ways of agricultural production growth”, where the topic aroused participants’ interest. This time the issue of prospects for sorghum development was widely developed by “NIBULON’s” representatives. The main aspects applied to the sorghum position in the context of ranking of profitability of major and oil crops after the example of “NIBULON’s” activity for 2011/2012 MY in a view of maximal and minimal prices, prospects for new yield, comparative analysis of sorghum, corn and spring barley profitability, and also prospects for price formation for corn and sorghum. Participants and organizers were interested in the company’s presentation. They invited “NIBULON’s” representatives to take part in the conference in December, 2012 which will be devoted to prospects for development of markets of niche crops.
