The Eco Forum-2021 was held in Zaporizhzhia last week. The European Green Deal to decarbonize the EU economy by 2050 was a key topic for discussion. The participants and highly qualified experts discussed opportunities to improve the environmental situation at state and regional levels in Ukraine, to preserve the environment through the actions of companies and organizations, as well as in the daily life of citizens.NIBULON, a modern and high-tech facility, demonstrated its own investment and environmental projects in Zaporizhzhia region. The company has managed to achieve this success as a result of a unique logistics system (which it created itself), and the implementation of the company’s large-scale investment program to revive the Dnipro and the Southern Buh as the main transport arteries of the country. Thus, we hope that our experience will be useful for other participants at the Eco-Forum.”Speaking about NIBULON’s success, please note the company’s activities create environmental, investment, logistics, and infrastructure benefits.By building three modern environmentally friendly facilities located along the Dnipro in Zaporizhzhia region, NIBULON has removed more than 1.7 million tons of cargoes from highways annually, representing about 71 thousand cargo trips per year. The distance to transport agricultural commodities has been also reduced from 400 km to 80-100 km, thereby saving UAH 800 million annually that the state would otherwise require to repair roads. The emission of pollutants and greenhouse gases has been extremely reduced. Since the company started its investment project, carbon oxide emissions have been reduced by 775 tons, nitrogen dioxide by 469 tons, carbon dioxide by 62.3 thousand tons, non-methane volatile organic compound by 177.2 tons, and carbon black by 60 tons.As a leading Ukrainian investor and a shining example of a socially responsible business, NIBULON always helps the communities situated around the company’s facilities. The company signs social partnership agreements with local communities to solve their urgent or long-lasting issues and to promote community development. The company carried out the same activities in Zaporizhzhia region where its transshipment terminals are located. Since NIBULON built its facility in Bilenke village (Khortytsia branch), the company has invested UAH 20 million in social projects covering road repairs, street lighting installation, and the construction of a football field with an artificial turf with a sprinkler system. The company equipped a modern computer classroom at Bilenke school and created a park on the Dnipro riverbank. One of the company's largest investment projects was the construction of modern treatment facilities with a capacity of 2,000 cubic meters per day. Nobody has invested in such facilities for 15-20 years, and sewage water was discharged into the Dnipro until 2017. NIBULON helped to prevent an environmental disaster by completing the construction of this facility. In addition, the company created 100 new workplaces in Bilenke village and pays UAH 1.8 million of taxes and dues annually to the local budget. The company has invested UAH 620 million and created 100 new workplaces in Ternivka village where its Ternivska branch is located. The local budget receives UAH 1.8 million annually from taxes and dues paid by the company. As part of the social partnership agreement signed between the company and the village community, the company laid 3 km of new hydraulic-engineering facilities, repaired road pavements and roofs for social institutions (Ternivka kindergarten, the house of culture, and a sport complex), and equipped toilets in the Ternivka kindergarten. NIBULON dredged and cleaned 1,821 m of the left tributary of the Dnipro – the Ploska Osokorivka River. Implementing regular compensatory measures to prevent natural resources depletion is one of the forms of NIBULON’s environmental standard as a socially responsible business. Since the company started to implement its investment program to revive navigation by the Dnipro and the Southern Buh, the company has stocked the Dnipro, the Southern Buh, as well as the Kakhovka Reservoir, the Kaniv Reservoir, the Kremenchuk Reservoir and the Dnipro Reservoir, with fish as part of compensatory measures, having released almost 66 tons of silver carp, grass carp and carp, with a total worth UAH 2.8 million during 2009-2020. NIBULON stocked rivers with 36.766 tons of fry of herbivorous fish, worth about UAH 1.2 million, in Zaporizhzhia region. In addition to improving the environmental condition in the regions, NIBULON constantly implements greenery measures in settlements where the company’s facilities operate. Having finished building the Ternivska branch transshipment terminal last year, the company planted 862 saplings of ornamental and fruit trees, as well as 116 rose bushes in Ternivka village (Zaporizhzhia region), as well as 286 trees and 75 bushes were planted along the Ploska Osokorivka River bank, on reclaimed land, along the Ternivska branch bypass, at the facility’s site, and within its sanitary protection zone. The company has planted more than 30,722 trees and bushes, worth UAH 1.5 million, including 1,701 trees and bushes in Zaporizhzhia region, worth UAH 256.7 thousand over the past ten years. NIBULON supports global environmental initiatives, including an initiative to plant one trillion trees by 2030 as well as the All-Ukrainian project “Greenery of Ukraine” to plant 1 million trees across Ukraine. The company implements the All-Ukrainian planting of greenery in various regions of Ukraine where its facilities operate. Planting many trees is the most efficient way to fight global warming and climate change being one of the most important problems nowadays.
