Tractor driver Viacheslav, landscaper Natalia, pensioner Anatolii and the head of the territorial community Serhii are united by a common problem – the mined fields of the Shyrokivska AH.
In 2022, the Shyrokivska amalgamated territorial community was under daily Russian shelling for more than eight months and now, like the entire Snihuriv district, is considered one of the most mined areas in Mykolaiv region. This is where our heroes live and where their land plots are located.
NIBULON’s demining of their landowners’ land is a real chance for the landowners to quickly return the land contaminated by explosive ordnance to cultivation without spending a penny out of their own pockets and receive funds from their working share to restore their farms and hope for a peaceful life.
For the rest of the farmers whose land plots are contaminated with ERW, the situation with demining remains uncertain. They openly say they have no money for demining and are waiting for help from the state or international partners. NIBULON is ready to help.
Sappers and a demining machine are working in the fields of NIBULON shareholders. They are examining every centimeter. After that, the cleared areas undergo two levels of quality control. Only then are reports drawn up and submitted to the Mine Action Centre.
Thus, NIBULON has already cleared the land of almost five hundred of its shareholders. Fifty more shareholders and farms in Mykolaiv region are ready to cooperate with the company, meaning 26,000 hectares of land and potentially 1,000,000 tonnes of wheat annually. According to Maksym Sovetkin, Head of NIBULON’s demining department, demining services for shareholders and communities will be provided at cost. The main thing is to find donors.
In these four issues, together with LATIFUNDIST.COM and GCS, we show what difficulties Ukrainian farmers are going through, how the demining process is progressing, how to make it as quick and safe as possible, how much land has already been surveyed, and how a farmer can apply for humanitarian demining.
