NIBULON has Transported 20 Million Tons of Cargoes by Ukrainian Inland Waterways

Every year the company achieves high volumes of cargoes transported by water, and today NIBULON demonstrates another important achievement. Since the company commenced its operations, it has transported more than 20 million tons of various cargoes: 17.3 million tons by the Dnipro River and 2.7 million tons  by the Southern Buh. The company managed to achieve this result through the successful implementation of its large-scale investment program to revive the Dnipro and other Ukrainian rivers as shipping arteries. As part of this project, NIBULON hasconstructed a well-developed network of 27 modern transshipment terminals and elevator complexes along the Dnipro and the Southern Buh;  purchased a deserted shipyard in Mykolaiv in 2012, reconstructed it and revived its operation. It now builds complete vessels of 140 m in length;     built Ukraine’s most modern private trade fleet (82 vessels) at its own NIBULON shipbuilding and repair yard in Mykolaiv;revived navigation over a 134 km length of the Southern Buh at its own expense, having obtained 47 various permissions within 5 years and having built the unique Mykolaivets high-capacity dredging vessel (SDS-15 project). As a result of this project, NIBULON, as well as every Ukrainian and the entire country, has received the following benefits:since it commenced operations, the company has invested more than USD 2.3 billion to develop the country’s economy;having redirected cargo transportation to rivers, the company has removed more than 830 thousand trucks from Ukrainian highways; due to NIBULON, the state has saved almost UAH 20 billion of budget funds directed to road repairs. According to the Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine, each 1 million tons of cargoes transported by river saves almost UAH 1 billion in road repairs;the optimal location of the company’s terminals reduces the number of trucks entering cities and, in some cities, results in their complete elimination;60% of the company’s cargoes are currently transported by rivers; 30% by railway, and only 10% by roads; following NIBULON’s successful example, other companies have started to redirect their cargo transportation to rivers;by developing Ukrainian navigation on inland waterways, the company contributes to the revival and development of Ukrainian shipbuilding and other related sectors of the economy;the company has contributed to the improvement of environmental situation in Ukraine. Water transports is the world’s most environmentally friendly mode of transport and reduces considerably vehicle emissions (carbon oxides, nitrogen, sulfur and soot as well as non-methane organic carbons, methane, and benzoperene). This will also improve the city’s air and the health of the citizens. Despite the company managed to make a real revolution in the Ukrainian logistics, it constantly faced and are facing various obstacles to develop navigation. Many problems are created by officials who do everything to make river transport uncompetitive in relation to road and railway, such as:the highest port dues for vessel’s entry to Mykolaiv and Kherson ports. Just imagine that these two ports are the most expensive not only in Ukraine but also in the world;an excessive tax burden on water transport, such as the excise tax on fuel, port dues, as well as payments for passing through the locks and raising bridges, payment for the use of water resources; creation of competitive advantages for foreign-going vessels, thereby making Ukrainian ship owners choose foreign flags and operate their vessels from abroad. Consequently, this reduces tax receipts to the Ukrainian budget, etc.;unreasonable closing of river navigation by officials based on fixed calendar dates being flexible during favourable weather conditions. This is just a small part of real problems NIBULON and other companies must face daily. Certain People’s Deputies and officials try to include some of these rigorous conditions into the anti-state draft law “On Inland Water Transport”, thereby defiantly ignoring the interests of Ukraine, transparent Ukrainian business, and Ukrainians… Despite numerous challenges, the company will be working to develop Ukraine’s economy and to make Ukraine a marine state.
