This year’s “Arms and Security” exhibition, held annually in compliance with the decree of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, has become the site to present NIBULON’s and OCEA shipbuilding achievements. This large-scale project is a unique opportunity to strengthen the domestic economic potential and partnership relations with foreign partners. The cooperation of the Ukrainian-French team started in July 2020, when NIBULON, a leader in the Ukrainian shipbuilding, signed a Memorandum of Mutual Understanding with the OCEA French Shipyard to build Fast Patrol Boats type OCEA FPB 98 MKI as part of the government project to strengthen Ukraine’s maritime safety and security. The Memorandum and a contract to build patrol boats were signed between the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine and OCEA at NIBULON shipbuilding and repair yard, where 5 out of 20 patrol boats will be built.NIBULON and OCEA are efficiently conducting preparation work to start building patrol boats in Ukraine, planned for the beginning of 2022. The French party will have supplied the first aluminum patrol boat by the end of the current year. As part of the future cooperation, the companies presented a common exhibition booth represented by Andriy Vadaturskyy, NIBULON’s Chairman of the Supervisory Board, Mykhailo Rizak, Deputy General Director for Interaction with Government Bodies, Denys Semenov-Orlianskyi, a head of the design and engineering department at NIBULON’s shipyard, and Philippe Neri, OCEA’s director of maritime safety and security. During the exhibition, NIBULON presented its achievements in civil shipbuilding – the building of Ukraine’s most modern fleet and OCEA’s achievements in the design and construction of aluminum vessels.In addition, all the participants and guests had an opportunity to see the capacities of NIBULON’s shipbuilding and repair yard during the exhibition. NIBULON installed video cameras at its shipyard and provided an online demonstration of various production and working processes conducted by highly qualified Ukrainian shipbuilders at the workshops equipped with the up-to-date equipment from the world’s leading manufacturers, directly on the building berth and a slipway, at the exhibition during four days. Please note that NIBULON’s shipyard specializes in steel works, but the company has already had experience in working with ship’s aluminum. The shipyard has produced wheelhouses for the POSS-115 project tugs and a tent cover for the deck equipment for the T410 project tugs.During the building of five patrol boats, the shipyard will master modern technologies to work with aluminum alloy and make advances to develop its positions on the domestic and international markets of small and medium-tonnage shipbuilding and ship repair. Building patrol boats together with foreign partners does not only give access to modern technologies to build patrol boats, but also increases the export potential of the Ukrainian shipbuilding sector. The company’s shipyard can demonstrate the capabilities of modern Ukrainian shipbuilding to build small-sized maneuverable tugs as well as vessels up to 140-m long.
