Gilles Mettetal organised the roundtable discussion on food security hosted by the International Finance Corporation that was attended by representatives from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, the World Bank, the UN’s Food and Agricultural Organization and other private sector agribusinesses and banks.“The roundtable was a useful opportunity to exchange views on how development institutions can support Ukraine to maintain and increase food exports and contribute to global food security, with suggestions from various stakeholders,” Mettetal said. “There was strong emphasis on the urgent need to provide liquidity support to banks, traders and processors so that farmers can sell their produce and prepare for the next planting season.”The UN has estimated that Russia’s war could increase the number of people at risk of acute hunger by 47 million this year, with the greatest impact on Sub-Saharan Africa.
