The excursion was held within a large-scale geographic inter-zonal practical training of freshmen. According to the organizers, acquaintance with the shipbuilding yard is a unique opportunity for field investigations of the future geographers.
“Our students are just beginning to study, and this is their first practical training with a route from Polissia to the Southern Ukraine. The key city for our researches is Mykolaiv, and the main enterprise is NIBULON shipbuilding and repair yard. Such notions as ship repair and shipbuilding are terra incognita for them. Young people are mostly not from this region and have never seen machine-building enterprises. They did not even imagine enterprises of such size as yours”, said Olha Mamchur, one of the organizers.
The guests were enthusiastic from the very beginning of the excursion till its end,
“Is that some other country?”, the students were asking each other crossing the front gate of the shipbuilding yard”.
The specialists of NIBULON shipbuilding and repair yard told the guests about the shipyard’s history, the specifics of its work, the implementation of the shipbuilding program and the reconstruction.
The students were also familiarized with the peculiarities of work of the shipyard’s main production facilities. They saw the shipyard’s warehouse to store metal capable of storing 10,000 tons of metal at once, metal cleaning and priming area with Rösler preservation line, metal processing area, assembly and fabrication workshop, as well as new insulation equipment warehouse and paints and varnishes warehouse that were put into operation at the beginning of 2018.
“The shipyard really impressed us and our students. You are a real breakthrough in Ukraine. It is valuable that you develop shipbuilding in an integrated manner and you develop both your shipyard and infrastructure. This is a demand of time. Unfortunately, not all plants in Ukraine are such as yours. It is nice that there are so many women working here, as well as the fact that there is a large number of young people”, says Olha Mamchur.
The students were very impressed by the works on the building berth: the preparation and assembly of sections of NIBULON MAX vessel.
“That is the first time I visit such a plant, see such a big vessel so close (it’s about NIBULON MAX vessel). It is very cool that we were able to find out a lot of new information about shipbuilding process. I am confident that the knowledge and experience gained today will be much more useful than just a lecture”, says Ivan, a student.
At the end of the meeting, the students thanked the company’s management for such an interesting excursion. They assured that the unique knowledge and experience gained would be the key to successful practical training and a good assessment of the work.
