The company invests considerable resources to ensure the best working conditions and to prevent potential anthropogenic emergencies. At present, the facilities are equipped with automated systems to control technical lines, temperatures, fire prevention, as well as pump station and water supply systems. The company has also formed voluntary firefighting brigades. In addition, NIBULON always supports high production standards and the appropriate sanitary condition on the sites of its facilities. Considering that a high fire danger level and high engineering structures are present at the facilities, the company, together with the divisions of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, conducts periodic special trainings. Recently, civil defense training has been conducted at Zolotoniska branch in Cherkasy region. To practice procedures in case of anthropogenic emergencies in both peace-time and special periods, the state firefighting division and the company’s civil defense unit conducted command and staff exercises over three days. The exercise was based on a simulated power shortcut causing a fire in one of the grain dryers. The duty officer shut down the grain dryer and informed the facility’s management and a civil defense unit; he then started to extinguish the fire by using a dry powder extinguisher. The chief engineer called 101 and informed the division of the State Emergency Service in the district about the fire and started to gather NIBULON’s voluntarily fire brigade. At the same time the chief power engineer turned off electricity and gas and activated the fire pump station. In accordance with the coordinator’s order, the headquarters for the liquidation of emergencies was efficiently established, and the coordination of personnel activities was started. In compliance with the plan, NIBULON’s voluntarily fire brigade inspected the place and started to extinguish the fire by using the fire pump station. The 6th State Fire and Rescue Team of the Main Department of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in Cherkasy region joined NIBULON’s fire brigade to resolve the emergency. The simulated fire was localized and extinguished. There were no injuries.According to the fire drill, the participants managed to perform successfully all the main and additional tasks. NIBULON’s firefighting team and the divisions of the Main Department of the State Emergency Service have achieved a high level of cooperation. Each party could adopt the experience, practice skills and knowledge to fight a fire at the facility. The company thanks the State Emergency Service of Ukraine for its fruitful cooperation.
