Crew of “NIBULON-1” tug rescued a sailor and two barges in Kremenchuk water storage basin

The crew of the tug “NIBULON-1”, which is the flagship of the fleet of the largest agricultural company in Ukraine “NIBULON”,displayed courage and professionalism in conducting a successful rescue operation on the Dnipro River at Kremenchuk reservoir (Poltava region) – a man and two barges are rescued. An extraordinary event took place in the afternoon of November 29 during a storm at the reservoir – wind speed with gusts reached 37 m/s and wave height was 3 meters. Two empty flat-top river barges were carried away in these difficult storm conditions at the reservoir of the tug “Nikitich”, which headed to Kyiv. Provided there was a man on board of one barge. The ship reeled under the force of the strong gusts of wind, the waves rocked the barges heavily. A seaman had to fight for his life, he firmly grabbed a storm rail, his clothes were wet, cold wind blew through his clothes, uncovered parts of the body were strongly weather-beaten, but he managed to hold the barge at anchor till the end in the area of the 4th fairway buoy. The second barge went into free floating, threatening a dam of the Kremenchuk hydroelectric station. At the same time there was a tug of “NIBULON” at the reservoir, carrying out a planned sailing to deliver cargo from “NIBULON’s” branch “Gradyz’k” (Poltava region) to Mykolayiv. Captain of “NIBULON’s” flagship Volodymyr Mayevs’kyy under the guidance ofdispatching service shipping company of “NIBULON” and Kremenchuk division of State Fleet Inspection immediately responded to the call for help, and started to rescue the sailor on board of out-of-control vessel. An experienced crew of “NIBULON-1” tug, despite the difficult storm conditions, managed to deliver the sailor on the ship on a rope. The person aggrieved was immediately provided with medical careand then he was taken to the anchored floating crane that was waiting for better weather. After that, the crew of “NIBULON’s” tug responded to the request of Svetlovodsk Emergency Control Ministryand went to rescue the second barge P-0488, by the time it was split and banged against concrete slabs of the dam. Thanks to the coordinated work of the crew, reliable equipment and confident actions of the captain of “NIBULON-1” tug, the barge was rescued from flooding and was towed to a safe riding. According to reports from the spot, the captain of “Nikitich” tug, who sheltered in Gradyz’k, examined his barges next morning and thanked all the participants of rescue operations. It is noteworthy that performance of rescue operation has become possible due to the fact that the leader of the agricultural market of Ukraine, “NIBULON” implements a large-scale investment project on the revival of navigation along the Dnipro River and other rivers of the country. For this purpose, modern tugs and non-self-propelled vessels have been designed and constructed, which already work on transport water ways in Ukraine. In fact, “NIBULON” revives the navigation alone – without any government support. “NIBULON-1” tug constructed within the framework of the investment project is equipped with all necessary modern life-saving appliances and equipment envisaged by Shipping Register of Ukraine – in particular, rescue boat, life rafts, lifejacket and signal devices, high precision navigation equipment. Currently “NIBULON” is one of the leaders in Ukraine to expand tonnage and fleet renewal. The company`s fleet consists of 33 vessels, including 28 non-self-propelled vessels of “river-sea” type with a total deadweight of 103 772 tons and 5 tugs. Construction of 2 more tugs is being completed now, it is planned to construct the next 2 tugs in 2012. Fleet of “NIBULON” is the youngest cargo fleet in Ukraine: 86% of the cargo fleet was constructed in 2009, all seabourne barges have a double hull. Fully integrated corporate structure: ship owners, commercial and technical management, 98 Ukrainian seamen and 49 people of offshore personnel.
