The Starobilskyi Elevator Ltd voluntary fire brigade, the divisions of the Main Department of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in Luhansk region, employees from the Main Department’s operation and coordination center, the emergency repair brigades of Luhansk Energy Association and Luhanskgaz, representatives from the National Guard and an emergency team participated in a fire drill to test teamwork.The exercise was based on a simulated explosion in a boiler room causing a fire in a dryer that could spread to other spaces and elevator equipment. As part of the drill's plan, one of the operators disappeared during the evacuation exercises and another specialist was allegedly trapped by fragments from building structures. Having noticed a fire in the boiler room, the duty officer immediately called 101. The elevator’s voluntary fire brigade of 5 persons, led by the team’s head, was the first to extinguish the fire using primary firefighting measures. The firefighting and rescue divisions of the Luhansk firefighting and rescue service of the civil protection brigade helped to quickly extinguish a fire within minutes. Due to their efficient and well-coordinated teamwork, the fire brigades conducted search operations, rescued the injured, and evacuated them from potentially dangerous areas. The healthcare workers provided first aid to the injured. A total of 10 units of firefighting, special and response vehicles of the State Emergency Service, as well as a fire engine of the elevator’s voluntary firefighting brigade were used at the site. The simulated fire on an area of 300 m2 was localized and extinguished within two hours. According to the press secretary of the Main Department of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in Luhansk region, Andriy Kravchenko, and the head of the emergency response department, Oleksiy Kovtun, Starobilskyi Elevator Ltd is the highest capacity facility in Luhansk region. Thus, it was chosen as the site to practice teamwork with all the brigades in order to protect the facility’s employees, equipment, and the grain stored there. Please note that NIBULON’s branches are regularly used as sites for operational and tactical exercises of the State Emergency Service divisions. Recently, a fire drill was performed at NIBULON shipbuilding and repair yard. These exercises help not only to prevent emergencies but also to efficiently react and coordinate activities with rescue services.
