On August 14, the NBL-003 non-self-propelled vessel, together with the Nodari Chanturia tug, will make its fifth cargo trip, and the cargo will be unloaded at NIBULON’s transshipment terminal in Pereiaslav town on August 20. The sweet watermelons will then be delivered to the trade networks of Silpo supermarkets (Fozzy Group).The transportation of Kherson watermelons has become a good tradition for the company and the most anticipated event for Kyiv citizens. NIBULON fleet transports delicious watermelons to Kyiv for the fifth consecutive year. This delivery has started in 2017, when the company joined the “Creating an effective logistic chain of fruit and vegetables delivery” pilot project of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). NIBULON’s non-self-propelled vessel left the Holoprystanska berth for the first time for over 15 years with 300 tons of watermelons. This event was the top news item on information agencies and social networks; the watermelons transported by barges were in great demand in the supermarkets. Please note that the loading/unloading of watermelons and melons is quite a laborious process. The watermelons are carefully packaged in cardboard containers meeting the European standards, which are placed on platforms in trucks, rather than being loaded in bulk, which would cause 10-13% of damaged items. The crane loads these pallets at the bottom of the non-self-propelled vessel at the river terminal. NIBULON delivers undamaged products to the destination port by water according to schedule. The containers are unloaded by the crane and placed into the refrigerators straight away. The watermelons will soon make buyers happy. Fruit and vegetables from the south of Ukraine are in great demand. NIBULON has the required experience and capacities (13 river transshipment terminals and a modern fleet) to conduct loading and unloading operations and to deliver natural vegetables and fruit of good quality to other Ukrainian regions. Thus, the efficient transportation by inland waterways is possible only by creating conditions for a carrier which are competitive with other modes of transport.
