"NIBULON Ltd." Transhipment Terminal
"NIBULON Ltd." decision to build a transhipment terminal in Nikolaev was made due to a number of factors: availability of the Company`s own agricultural land, which gives the yield of up to 100 thousand tons of grains; obvious need for Ukraine to export grains; transit cargoes from Russia and Kazakhstan; outdated domestic port infrastructure.
"NIBULON Ltd.", is an entity registered in "Nikolaev" Special Economic Zone, and on its territory the Company constructs the modern high-technological transhipment terminal for grains and oilseeds with the designed annual turnover of up to 1,3 mln. tons of grains. The Terminal is the Company`s property. Loading vessels at the Terminal is performed alongside the berth with the total length of 352m, which allows simultaneous loading of two vessels, provided technical norms and safety requirements are observed.
Navigation of vessels to "NIBULON Ltd." terminal is normaly started from the pilot station of "Yuzhny" Port as per the route: "Ochakiv" Port roads,- entrance to the Bugsko-Dniprovsko-Limanskiy Channel (BDLC), - water area of Nikolaev (Mykolaiv) Sea Commercial Port,- the first bend of "Nikolaev" Port entrance channel,- "NIBULON Ltd." Terminal.
The BDLC depth makes 11,2 m, which allows sailing for vessels with the maximum draft of 10.3m. "Delta-Pilot" State Company, which services the BDLC, has planned dredge works to increase the depth for the vessels with the draft of up to 10,5m. Official allowable draft in the Nikolaev Sea Commercial Port water area is 10,3m.
In the nearest future "NIBULON Ltd." plans to increase the depth of the water area and the first bend of "Nikolaev" Port up to the BDLC level. With this aim, a project of dredge works was developed. The project will be implemented in two stages: increasing the depth of the water area and the first bend of "Nikolaev" Port channel to 11,5m, with subsequent increasing of the depth to 11,5m on the second stage. The planned volume of dredging is 99,000m3 on the first and 402,000 m3 on the second stage.
At present the project is in the process of final approval. The respective documents were developed, places for dumping of the spoil were determined and the environmental evaluation of the project was made. "NIBULON Ltd." announced a tender for dredge works.
It took only a year for the Company to put into operation the first and the second stages of the Terminal, which ensure intake, discharge/unloading and loading of grains on vessels. The Terminal has the following capacities:
possibility to discharge/intake grains from r.w. wagons (direct transhipment): up to 4,000-5,000 tons per day; possibility to discharge/load the grains on a vessel from 15 r.w. wagons simultaneously; unloading rate at intake from trucks (including a truck + trailer without decoupling): 300 T per hour. The Terminal operation is ensured by modern conveyor and transport system, automatic control systems in handling cargo flows, computerized electronic weighing system with electronic scales, sensor system and an operator room.
Two granaries of 50,000 tons volume, each allowing to simultaneously accumulate several ship consignments. Being the largest in Europe and unique for Ukraine, the granaries were built basing on the French technology under supervision of "DÎÌÅÕÐÅRÒ, Inc.", Canada, possessing experience in construction of such facilities.
The quality control of the commodities at "NIBULON Ltd." Transhipment Terminal is performed by a modern laboratory furnished with the equipment by foreign producers. Normally, sampling and further analysing does not exceed 8-10 minutes.
The availability of the Company`s own Transhipment Terminal allows:
Controlling the process of delivery: delivery of the commodities from the inland grain silos and grain storages to the granaries at the Company`s Transhipment Terminal, ensuring observance of the contractual delivery terms. Well organised process will allow avoiding extra expenses in cases of temporary prohibitions by railway authorities imposed on transportation of cargoes by railway to ports, because of overloading of storage capacities at the destination ports and /or accumulation of wagons with cargo at the port approach tracks. This eliminates the risks associated with transportation. Controlling the process of export shipments using the Company`s own storage facilities at the Terminal, thus, increasing the volumes of cargo handling and reducing the per unit expenses. Ensuring the complex quality control system in "NIBULON Ltd." - from the beginning of the production cycle up to loading on transport facilities for export, thus guarantying the quality specifications in compliance with international standards. "NIBULON Ltd." Transhipment Terminal opens vast opportunities both for transhipment of grains and sunflower seeds of the Company`s production for export, as well as for provision of services to other exporters, including transhipment of transit agricultural cargoes. Thus, the Company makes a significant contribution to development of the regional transport junction and gives an impulse to further development of grain business in the region.
